Hardfacing deposits wear-resistant materials onto metal surfaces to extend component service life, reduce downtime, and lower replacement costs. It is used on high-wear parts such as wire drawing blocks, fracking plungers, and rope pulleys operating in abrasive, erosive, or high-impact environments, restoring worn surfaces and improving performance beyond original specifications.

Yes, MIG (GMAW) welding can be used for hardfacing when using appropriate flux-cored or solid hardfacing wire electrodes. However, for precision industrial components like wire drawing blocks or fracking plungers, advanced processes such as HVOF thermal spray or submerged arc welding deliver superior coating density, bonding strength, and wear performance compared to standard MIG hardfacing.

Parkway-Kew applies hardfacing using HVOF spray (exceeding Mach 2), plasma-sprayed ceramics, submerged arc welding, metallizing, and fuse welding. Each process is selected based on the component's operating environment, wear mode, and geometry, ensuring optimal coating adhesion, hardness, and service life for the specific application.

Parkway-Kew's carbide hardfacing uses proprietary materials including tungsten carbide matrix coatings (PK-675, PK-700, PK-750), nickel chrome boron alloys (PK-920), chrome oxide ceramic (PK-1500), and super-hard submerged arc alloys (PK-503, PK-200). Material selection depends on the wear mechanism, operating temperature, and surface finish requirements of the component.

Using Parkway-Kew's proprietary Restore & Grind process, wire drawing blocks and similar components can be repaired 5 to 7 times before requiring full recoating. The process fills and blends only the worn drawline area, preserving the original coating structure and delivering significant cost savings compared to premature full refurbishment.
